Witnessing the Potential Energy Within!

A few days ago I soaked a combination of radish, alfalfa, red clover and canola seeds to compliment my raw sandwiches using  a savoury raw bread recipe that I'm developing.  Well the bread was ready 24 hours later but the sprouts were not.

Unlike the buckwheat groats and soft wheat berries that sprout quite quickly (can see their little tails within 24 hours) these seeds took a bit longer.

This morning I was so excited to see that the seeds had little tails...very little!  Much to my surprise when I looked at them again just 6 hours later to find that they took off like a shot.  Some seeds having tails as long as 1 cm long.  I can only imagine what they will look like tomorrow!

I love how wowed I am by the potential energy that lies within seeds and within all of us!

As for the savoury raw bread...It turned out great and I'm testing a batch to see how well it freezes.  If it's anything like my Raw Carrot Cake Snack Bars, it will be just fine!

My Bold Green Energizer Juice

I had good intensions this morning to head into the kitchen and prepare a green smoothy.  Well it didn't turn out to be what actually happened.

I took a good look in my fridge and looked at everything that was in my vegetable drawer and thought,  "you know it's that kind of morning were I could do with a green energizing juice instead".

As in research at the lab bench, the best ideas and developments happen when you are simply curious and not afraid to try something new.  No protocols to follow but just pure instinct and trust that all will be just fine.  The result, a smooth energizing green juice that i'm currently enjoying while typing away on my keyboard as I sit by the fire in my living room.

It tastes so smooth and refreshing that I just need to share the recipe with you.

My Bold Green Energizer

2-3 large handfuls of spinach
1 small handful of coriander
1/2 lemon, peeled
2 medium or large carrots
1 apple
1/2 inch piece of ginger root
1 large celery stalk or 2 medium stalks

Push everything through a juicer let sit for a while to allow the flavours to blend and mellow out, then enjoy!

Makes approximately 12 ounces.  Enough to share or maybe not!  ;0)

Fresh Spiced Carrot Juice

Fresh carrot juice on it's own is very refreshing but add some zing to it and it takes it to a whole new level!  I bet Bugsy would love to have a glass too!

Give this one a go on a cold winters day for some internal heat!

Spiced Carrot Juice
Enough organic carrots to make 16 oz of carrot juice
2 small organic apples of your choice
1 inch slice of ginger root

Press everything through your juicer and enjoy!

My Favourite Raw Salad Dressing

When eating raw, it is so important to make sure that what you put on your food provides a burst of happiness to your taste buds.

I want to share a recipe that I have discovered with you that will make any salad sing!

Here is one of those recipes!

Orange-Tahini Dressing

1 cup fresh orange juice
1/4 cup raw tahini
4 pitted medjool dates
2 cloves garlic
1 tsp lemon zest
1 tablespoon of lemon juice

Place all ingredients in a blender and give it a whirl until the dressing well blended and emulsified.
Use enough to coat your salad greens and DIG IN!

Just a side note...it is amazing on spinach salad with thin slices of mushrooms, red onion, mandarine orange sections and a handful of chopped walnuts.

New Year, New You!?

Happy New Year!

I'm always baffled by the saying "New Year, New You".  What does that mean? How can it be a new me?  It's really my just me with some modifications.

It's the 2nd day of the new year and now that the celebrating is over we all turn to our new year resolutions and get them into action.  How many of you have set the same resolutions year after year?  hmmm,  interesting isn't it that we set the same resolutions year after year but never really get too far with them.

One of my new year's resolution for 2011 was to have a very healthy year and just take care of myself.  So one of the things I did was to really take a look at my diet.  How could I eat well, be satisfied with the food I was eating and not feel deprived.  I noticed that what I enjoyed most was eating raw vegetables so I explored possible ways to get more raw veggies into my diet without always eating carrots, celery, snap peas and a bit of hummus for lunch.  In April I discovered this thing called Raw Food at the yoga conference I was attending.  After some exploring I thought this was it.  A great way to get more raw food into my diet and still experiment in my kitchen and the added benefit... better health!  I enjoyed it so much that I started this blog because I wanted to share it with others.

This year my resolution is not to become a new me but an even healthier me!   Incorporate even more raw food into my diet and start the year helping others explore raw food as well.

So here we are the second day of the new year and some of my yoga students and I are on day 1 of a raw food cleanse.  I know to those of you who are sitting there squirming about that word "cleanse" it really isn't what you think it is (chuckling to myself).  I was in the same boat before trying it myself.  It's 3 days of simple raw food which includes very easy to make salads, great dressings, smoothies, and juices.  The end result, lots of energy, great sleeps and clarity.

Give it a try, I've also included a raw green smoothie below that you can try!  It's my most favourite green smoothy so far.

Happy New Year!

Green Berry Bliss
